Alpinestars Tech‑Air® 7X Airbag – MotoGP‑developed protection for track and performance road riding

The Tech‑Air® 7X represents the next evolution in Alpinestars’ electronic airbag technology and is designed for riders who demand maximum protection during spirited road riding, trackdays and racing. Developed from the same platform used in MotoGP, the 7X is fully FIM‑approved and CE‑certified as Category II PPE, meeting the highest safety standards for electronically activated airbag systems.

With a deployment time of approximately 44 milliseconds and an intelligent twelve‑sensor array, the Tech‑Air® 7X continuously monitors rider movement and environmental forces. Its algorithms are trained for both racing and road scenarios, allowing the system to distinguish between aggressive riding and genuine crash situations. When a crash is detected, the airbag inflates before the rider impacts the ground, providing extensive coverage across the shoulders, chest, back and coccyx.

Advanced crash detection with 12 sensors

The system uses accelerometers and a gyroscope combined with advanced algorithms to identify crash events with exceptional precision. This enables the airbag to deploy faster than a blink, delivering impact‑force reduction far beyond what passive protectors can offer. Impact forces can be reduced by up to 90% compared to a conventional Level 1 back protector.

Two ride modes – Race and Street

The Tech‑Air® 7X offers two optimised ride modes selectable via the Tech‑Air® App. Race Mode is calibrated for high‑speed track riding, hard braking and extreme lean angles. Street Mode is tuned for road riding and light off‑road conditions, where crash dynamics differ significantly from track use. This dual‑mode capability makes the 7X a versatile system suitable for multiple riding environments.

Flexible use and compatibility

The 7X can be worn as a standalone vest or integrated into Alpinestars Tech‑Air® Ready suits and jackets. It is also compatible with third‑party racing suits that provide approximately 4 cm of chest expansion space, ensuring correct airbag inflation during deployment.

Dual inflators and rapid servicing

Equipped with two gas inflators, the Tech‑Air® 7X allows two separate deployments before servicing is required. This is particularly valuable during trackdays where multiple sessions are ridden in a single day. A quick‑release inflator cover enables fast replacement where local regulations permit.

Comfort, ventilation and battery performance

The ventilated chassis features moulded airflow channels and ribbed panels to manage heat and reduce weight. Stretch zones and expansion panels ensure a close, non‑restrictive fit. The battery provides up to 20 hours of operation, and one hour of charging delivers roughly eight hours of ride time. The magnetic front flap automatically powers the system on when closed.

Certifications and safety standards

The Tech‑Air® 7X is certified under European PPE regulations and meets the requirements for electronically activated inflatable protectors. This includes certification for inflatable protection systems, Class C garments and integrated passive back protection under EN 1621‑2 Level 1. The extended back panel also provides coccyx coverage.

Service and return policy

Due to regulations governing the transport of pressurised gas canisters, Tech‑Air® products cannot be shipped by consumers. For servicing or returns, the product must be delivered in person to an authorised Tech‑Air® Service Hub. Alpinestars is continuously expanding its network of service locations across Europe.
