Alpinestars Tech-Air® Off-Road System
Alpinestars Tech-Air® Off-Road System is an autonomous electronic airbag system developed for riders who move between rally stages, technical enduro trails and the road. Proven through development in the Dakar Rally since 2017, it combines active airbag protection, integrated passive armor and off-road-specific crash detection in one complete upper-body protection system.
When the terrain changes without warning, preparation matters. Integrated accelerometers and gyroscopes continuously monitor the rider without requiring sensors on the motorcycle. ENDURO, RALLY and STREET modes adapt detection to different riding environments, while the system remains close to the body beneath a properly fitting motorcycle jacket.
Active airbag protection
- FIM-homologated for Cross-Country Rally competition
- CE Level 1 airbag coverage for the chest, back, shoulders, collarbones and neck
- Average inflation time of 52 milliseconds, depending on size
- Dual-charge inflators provide two deployments before the inflators require replacement
- The airbag is certified for up to four deployments when undamaged
- The inflated neck area provides protection in accordance with FIM requirements
Integrated passive protection
- CE Level 2 passive chest protector
- CE Level 1 back, elbow and shoulder protectors
- Nucleon CELL honeycomb technology in the chest and back protectors
- Additional roost padding on the arms and chest for debris encountered off-road
- Not compatible with neck braces, including Alpinestars Bionic Neck Support
Intelligent operation
- Self-contained ECU with integrated accelerometers and gyroscopes; no motorcycle-mounted sensors are required
- ENDURO mode for low- and medium-speed trail riding, RALLY mode for fast off-road terrain and STREET mode for asphalt and traffic
- Automatic activation when the system is zipped and deactivation when opened
- LED display shows system status, battery level and allows ride-mode changes
- Bluetooth connectivity supports firmware and system monitoring
- Up to 30 hours of battery life; full USB-C charging takes approximately four hours
Comfort for long stages
- Breathable stretch-mesh chassis with open panels for airflow and a close, stable fit
- Integrated sleeve and hose routing for a 1.53 liter hydration bladder
- Sealed electronics enclosure for all-weather use from ?10°C to 50°C
- Removable ECU and airbag simplify washing and maintenance
